WASHINGTON (WUSA/AP) - A fire that ripped through a shuttered District of Columbia elementary school is under investigation.

The fire broke out late Monday night around 11:30 p.m. at the old Webb Elementary School building in northeast Washington.

Firefighters arrived to find a large amount of fire and called for additional firefighters. A water supply task force was brought in with a high-volume pumping apparatus, according to a DC Fire spokesperson.

Firefighters were pulled out to defensive operations because of concern over possible collapse, says the spokesperson. They created a collapse zone and firefighters were pulled to a safe distance.

No injuries were reported.

The school has been closed since 2008.
