Samantha Santa Maria is an editor in the US natural gas group. In her role, she has analyzed the impact of infrastructure, emerging supply/shale sources, the wealth of M&A activity in the North American shale sphere and the ebbs and flows of financial trading regimes on natural gas markets and pricing with a view on competing commodities, such as oil, coal and further down the value stream to the petrochemicals sector.
Samantha has covered the spot, forward and futures markets in natural gas. She has been in the news business for more than a decade, joining Platts in 2006. Prior to that, she was the assistant news editor at The Clarion-Ledger newspaper in Jackson, Mississippi.
She started her career as a crime and technology reporter at The Straits Times newspaper in Singapore. She holds a Bachelors of Communication Studies (Hons.) from Nanyang Technology University in Singapore and a Master of Journalism from Northwestern University in Illinois.
